Flash Fiction Friday - Shouldering

Here. Now.
By Kathleen Kimball-Baker

“PUSH!”
“I can’t,” Ellie whimpers, wobbling on her hands and knees.”
“Stop it, Ellie, push!”
“Oh, God! Help me please! I’m gonna die.”
Beth pivots, faces her young sister.
“Listen to me. The baby’s stuck by his shoulders. You’ve got to ...”
Ellie’s screams split open the night.
A dusky baby slips into Beth’s hands.
Wailing.

Awesome!!!!!!!!! I love this. Need to send my daughter here. After 2 C-sections, she had a midwife deliver the 3rd naturally. Wonderful! ♥

Uh, this made me oddly grateful for my two c-sections, LOL. The scream piercing the night really got me. Thanks for visiting mine!

Been there. There is no magic quite like doing it yourself. No interference. You and your kid making it happen. But there is that moment when you say, "No way." Then, way. Beautiful.

@Jinksy:are you a softy?

Kathleen said...

@Brian: Wow! I witness such a birth. I hear you on the heart beating thing!

Kathleen said...

@Chef Kar: LOL! I swore I'd never say the words, "I'm done. I want to go home now." But sure enough, when I had back labor with my 3rd, the doggone words came right out. So embarrassing. Soon thereafter, Dr. Painkiller came in with an epidural. Wonderful relief!

This is a most wonderful 55. I absolutely love "split the night" and "A dusky baby (beautiful description) slips into Beth's hands."
