Flash Fiction - 7

Ring Toss
By Kathleen Kimball-Baker

He gambled.
Toss the ring into the lake -- or not?
She watched, silent, shivering.
Would he really?
Could he?
She’d given her word.
He his.
It wasn’t enough. He wanted more.
Rain fell.
Noises in the woods. Branches snapping.
Voices. Shadows spreading.
The wind picked up.
“It’s now or never.”
Please?
“I can’t.”
He jumps.

Made me a little teary ~ of course, my interpretation may be just that sad. Well done.

I've done two 55's this week. Here they are. Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend.

You meant something like this, when you said give it a try?

The Explorer

Her frail craft pushed through the rushes as she paddled. Suddenly, along the rippling surface of the stream, moonlight blazed a silvery trail for her to follow in the otherwise inky blackness of a cloudy night. Ahead lay unexplored territory, where fear of the unknown would be her constant companion.

Yes! Take the leap. I love things left to the imagination. 55's are a fun way to find new and talented people in the blogosphere?

What fun! Your piece is almost a poem. Lots of action in so few words. The only problem is I want to read more. Nice image too.

Kathleen: So effective that I had to keep the story going in my own head. Love the image too.

@Chef Kar: Sorry to cause tears. I debated publishing this one. I have no idea where this came from; I just sat down at the computer and out it flew. And then I said, Oh, what the heck, just put it out there. Sure appreciate your reading it and commenting!

Kathleen said...

@Jinksy: Yes! Just like that. Did you feel constrained or freed?

Kathleen said...

@G-Man: Thank you! I truly look forward to this! You sure have started a blaze with our 55s! Love it!

Kathleen said...

@Dr. John: Yes! Some many possibilities. All of yours work. But which works best for YOU?

Kathleen said...

@Alice Audrey: I'm afraid he didn't tell me. Characters are maddening that way, aren't they?! =;^D

Kathleen said...

@Mona: If you figure that one out, please tell me! That where the story ended in my head. Very mysterious, indeed! Hey, thanks for reading!

Kathleen said...

@Fandango: Dragons don't have romance? I'm sorry to hear that. And if he tells you where he jumped, please do clue me in. I have no idea!

Kathleen said...

@Mama Zen: Thank you! And thanks for reading my 55 and for leaving a comment.

Kathleen said...

@Monkey Man: Couldn't agree with you more! Thanks for having a look and posting a comment. Hope you'll come back again!

Kathleen said...

@Sarah: Wow. I'm very honored that you had a look! Glad it left you wanting more. I'll have to see if those characters will pay another visit!

Kathleen said...

@Bonnie: Interesting! And where did the story go? I'd love to hear!

To all you lovely visitors:

I really debated posting this one. I'm fascinated by the dark things that find their way into my 55s -- but I always have a moment of doubt about putting them out there. So I really appreciate the feedback!

Till next week!
